My 8 faces – Gill Sans
After getting stuck in to a couple of copies of 8Faces I thought I’d start to compile my own list of typefaces I couldn’t live without. The precedent set by 8Faces is that any designer should only need eight typeface families to use for everyday use. Instead of sifting through hundreds of typefaces trying to find a fit; owning eight solid families should suffice.
So to start off I’d like to introduce …
Gill Sans
Designed by Eric Gill in 1926 this humanist type takes inspiration from the type used through the London underground. Its geometric forms are based on Roman types making it more readable than other geometric typefaces like Futura.
No flair or showiness, Gill Sans is simple and readable, and thats why its great.
